Gold Egyptian Canopic Jars Set of Four 12cm High
These gold canopic jars are a representation of the four jars used in the mummification process of ancient Egyptians. They were used for the storage of the internal organs; the Lungs were placed in the Baboon headed jar Hapy, representing North and protected by Nephthys; the stomach in the Jackal headed jar representing East and under the protection of Neith; Imsety the human headed God contained the Liver and was protected by the Goddess Isis in the South; the final jar - Qebehsenuef the Falcon Headed, contained the intestines and was protected by Serqet in the West.
